My Career Advice for Women

After some exciting news the last couple of days and some great workshops I’ve attended recently, I was inspired to share 9 lessons I’ve learned to be true, throughout my 18 years of employment in various industries.

I’ve geared this post specifically towards women, as I have found women struggle more than men with many of these concepts. Now, that is not to stay these lessons cannot apply to any gender, and I hope more than women find this helpful, but I want my ladies to hear me loud and clear when I say:

This is NOT a man’s world!

The only way to overcome gender norms and inequality is to refuse to abide by them. This begins with you dropping the “eager to please”, passive, submissive mentality, out of fear of being labeled arrogant, “bossy”, or the other b-word. And women, we need to stop perpetuating this by being overly critical of other women. We rise by lifting each other up.

Bottom line: Own your awesomeness, never apologize for being a powerful woman, and communicate why a potential employer will be lucky to have you! Happy hunting.
